Who can live in the school dorms?

Housing is available to all enrolled students. Students must:

  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Have satisfactory attendance
  • Demonstrate respectful behavior toward fellow residents

What’s included in the dorm furnishings?

In each student unit:

  • Bedroom: Bed, dresser, window coverings
  • Living room: Sofa, chairs, dining table
  • Kitchen: Stove, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, storage cabinets
  • Bathroom: Shower and tub

Additional amenities:

  • Coin-operated washer and dryer on-site
  • Central heat, air conditioning, and utilities included
  • A vacuum to help keep your space clean
What should I bring with me?

Here’s a basic list to get you started:

  1. Food and snacks
  2. Cooking utensils (frying pan, saucepan, spatula, etc.)
  3. Dinnerware (1–2 plates, glasses, silverware)
  4. Towels (bath and kitchen)
  5. Bedding (pillow, sheets, mattress pad, blanket)
  6. Paper goods (toilet paper, tissues, paper towels)
  7. Personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.)
  8. Laundry items (basket, detergent, fabric softener)
Are the dorms safe?
Yes! Dorm access is restricted with a coded security key that cannot be duplicated. Visitors must be accompanied by a resident and are only allowed during designated visiting hours.
Can I bring a pet?
Pets are not allowed in the dorms unless prior approval has been granted by the college office.

The cost of the dorms comes to $300 per month for each course. Yes, you read that correct. "$300 per month". How is this possible? Well its simple, we wanted them affordable & this cost includes your basic needs like beds, dressers, stove, refrigerator, microwave, shower, air, heat, water and garbage. The dorms are called LaJames Suites. We tried to not only make them very comfortable but extremely affordable. However dorms living is not for everyone. For those that need student housing, we have a list of apartment's and housing complexes that are close to the college. The average cost for a 1 bedroom apartment in Mason City is around $675 per month. As you can see, the housing costs are not so bad at all.
