The Original La' James College of Beauty, located in Mason City, Iowa, is a Nationally Accredited Cosmetology School committed to excellence in education and training.

Esthiology Course
The Original La' James College Esthiology course offers a comprehensive 600-hour Esthetics course that meets the Iowa standards set by Iowa. This program includes a combination of Esthiology theory and supervised practical instruction.

An Esthetician is identified by the Standard Occupational Classification under SOC Code 39-5094.00 Skin Care Specialist. This course will be taught in English; the catalog and enrollment contract are in English.

Esthetics Program Goals and Phases
Our program is designed to prepare students for licensure in Esthiology in Iowa. Students typically complete 23 hours per week, allowing them to graduate in approximately 7 months.

Program Breakdown:

Level 1: Skill Fundamentals (300 Hours)
Your journey starts with the Milady CIMA digital curriculum, where you gain foundational skills in:

  • Facials and Skin Care
  • Anatomy and Physiology of the Body
  • Skin Ecology
  • Product Knowledge
  • Clients’ Needs Assessment
  • Application of Massage Techniques
  • Hair Removal

From day one, you'll engage in hands-on learning, working through a project book that will serve as a valuable resource throughout your education. Before progressing to the next level, you will complete written and practical exams.

Level 2: Career Essentials (300 Hours)
This phase builds upon your foundational skills, with a focus on:

  • Advanced Esthetics Topics
  • Advanced Makeup Techniques
  • Business Practices
  • Iowa Law
  • Client Relations

You'll also gain real-world experience with clients on the Spa Floor.

Monday: 8a-1pm Tuesday - Thursday: 8am - 12pm
Friday: 8am - 2pm

Esthetician Diploma

29 Weeks – 600 Hours

In the 600 hours of your esthetic’s course we combine all the information you will need through a very complete and exemplary theory class as well as one-on-one training. This program will guide you toward graduation. You may then apply for the Iowa State licensing exam. Make-up and skin care schools, such as La' James College, help prepare you for a multifaceted beauty career. A skin care degree allows you to help others look and feel good about themselves, thus increasing their self-esteem and self-confidence.

Teacher Training Program

Having Qualified trained teachers is an important things for cosmetology Schools. We believe that students benefit from teachers who are excited to help other professionals grow, and we want to help cosmetologist give back to the next generation.

Cosmetology graduates from a Nationally Accredited College may enroll and take the Teachers training course if Qualified. This graduate level course runs for approx. 33 weeks. Interested graduates or students will interview and go thru an evaluation of credentials to determine eligibility.

With enrollment in all of our programs, we offer convenient on-campus dorms, providing a comfortable and supportive living environment for students to focus on their education.

Teacher Training Diploma (30 weeks – 1000 Hours)

Boards and Licensing: A student must compete 1000 hours of training in the Teacher Training Program. LaJames College requires a minimum of 80% in grade evaluations in order to pass. A diploma is given at completion of the course.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be eligible to sit for the state examination. Upon Successful completion of the exam the graduate will be a licensed cosmetology instructor. Career opportunities include all the opportunities that the cosmetologist had along with teaching in a college.

--- The upon completion of the 1,000 hour program, demonstration of the technical ability to conduct class, prepare lesson plans, and have the ability to engage students in a learning environment. Graduates will have the ability to apply for and take the state of Iowa teacher’s Licensing exam.
